Assistant Professor, Modern Japan

The University of Southern California invites applications for a tenure-track position in Modern Japan at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in August 2010. Applicant must have completed his or her Ph.D. by that date. Depending on the final candidate’s qualifications, the appointment will be in either the History Department or Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures. Specialization and time period are open, and could include the history, culture, thought and literature of the Tokugawa to Shōwa periods. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in his or her home department, and work productively with colleagues in Japanese and East Asian studies across several departments. USC provides a rich environment in which to teach and do research on Japan, given our active graduate programs, library research collections, East Asian Studies Center, and resources in the larger Los Angeles metropolitan area.
